In years past, I haven't baked a birthday cake for Jesse because it takes about a month for our two mouths to devour it, but as this was his 30th, we put reason aside and celebrated large. This year, he requested a triple chocolate cake, and his wish was my command. After eating his cake last night, conversation led to this triple chocoloate cake, and I discovered he had no recollection of requested this type of cake, nor would he ever request it. Uh oh...I'm either going crazy or I drempt that he asked this...bad sign I suppose. I'd like to think he just forgot...

Monday Movie Mania
My parents bought Hutch this cute little hat, and we've been waiting for his head to get big enough to fit it. He finally fits!
Hutch wasn't too sure about showing off his skills in front of the video camera...

Un-Penned
Have you ever felt trapped with decisions or issues? This past week, both Jesse and I have been under some pressure to seek God's counsel for some big decisions in our lives. Oftentimes I feel overwhelmed, worried, and out of control when these times come, but this time, I've been so overwhelmed with Christ's peace instead. This photo of Hutch reminds me of how we can think we're boxed in when really, we are the ones making ourselves feel stuck. He thinks he's in his pen, but really he's just not opening his eyes wide enough to realize he's free, safe, and very un-penned. Thank you Jesus, for helping me open my eyes and experience your peace during this decision-making time.

From the Word
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” - Hebrews 6:10

Reap What You Sow
Not sure if it really counts to say we have radishes, as only two have proven themselves worthy to eat, but still. Two radishes! This weekend will be a gardening weekend--replanting radishes (let's hope just two times is a charm), staking up the tomato plant (it's gotten huge), and figuring out a way to keep my snap peas under control (they are attaching their little twisty vines to EVERYTHING).

Look! We have radishes! |
And then there's this little guy, who I'm pretty sure has made our simple little lives into something quite wonderful. While at times we both miss our freedom and the peace and quiet, we can't help but love this little face. I go home at lunchtime every day to let Hutch outside and play with him for an hour, but yesterday, we just cuddled on the couch and he let me take a nap. Such a good little fella'.

Would He Weep?
While the television channels and radio stations blare celebrations of victory over a cruel man's death, I'm saddened by what I see and hear. Profanities are being tossed into the wind without forethought or dignity. Our country's biggest enemy has died and we celebrate--in the streets, on banners, in the confines of our own homes. And yet, we have forgotten what we teach our children. How does the disgusting words dripping from our tongues support "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?" Just yesterday a coworker exclaimed how he thinks we should be "old school" and put Osama's head on a pole and parade it around. These ideas and mindsets litter our nation, and we wonder why our world is falling apart. I do support ending a war, ending the violence a very influential man inflicted upon the world, but I do not support the celebration of one man's end.
Would Jesus be standing in the street holding up a banner that said "Victory is Ours?" or would He weep because a soul was lost to the depths of the earth? I don't have the answer to that, but I know returning violence for violence is not the answer. Our celebration is wrapped with violent thoughts and motives.
Rather than celebrating the victory of death, how about we celebrate moving forward. How about we support our troops in continuing to keep our nation safe? How about we love on those families who have sacrificed their loved ones for this endeavor? Is it not better to love than to hate?
